Manuscript Submission Instructions
Only papers that have been presented at ICFRM-12 will be considered for publication. Potential presenters who are unable to attend the meeting may submit their manuscripts to a journal of their choosing.
All papers will undergo a rigorous technical and editorial review. Accepted papers will be published in a conference volume of the Journal of Nuclear Materials and must be prepared according to the instructions for that journal which are described in vol. 304 (2002) p. v-vi. The JNM authors' guide is also available at http://authors.elsevier.com/journal/jnucmat.
In addition to the requirements of the Journal, the following instructions must be followed by all ICFRM-12 authors. A completed cover page and manuscript length estimation form (described below) must accompany each manuscript. Please consult the Manuscript Format Checklist (
Word, 24 KB) before submitting your paper.
Length of Papers: Invited Plenary and Invited Oral papers are limited to eight journal pages. Contributed papers (oral and poster) are limited to five journal pages. The manuscript (including the abstract and references) is limited to a maximum of 6500 words for the invited papers and 4000 words for the contributed papers. In calculating the number of words, the following equivalents must be used:
- Each table or figure of one-column width that occupies 1/4 pages should be counted as 250 words.
- Each table or figure of two-column width that occupies 1/2 pages should be counted as 500 words.
- Each equation is counted at 30 words per line.
- Each reference should be counted as 20 words.
- The above count takes into account space occupied by titles, authors affiliation, etc., on the first page.
Papers exceeding the word limit will be returned to the authors for immediate revision. They will not be reviewed until such revision is made. The Paper Length Estimation Form (
Word, 29 KB) should be completed and attached to the manuscript for submission.
Submission of papers: Manuscripts should be prepared in double-spaced format to facilitate review and editing. The preferred manner of manuscript submission is electronic, but hard-copy paper manuscripts may be submitted by postal mail in paper form if necessary.

References to other work should be consecutively numbered in the text using square brackets and listed by number in the Reference list. Please refer to a recent issue of the journal for examples. Refer to the JNM authors' guide at http://authors.elsevier.com/journal/jnucmat.
Language: The language of the Conference and for the Proceedings is English. All papers must be written in English and the authors are responsible for correct English usage. Papers that have serious grammatical errors will be returned to the authors without a technical review and may not be considered for publication in the conference proceedings volume if a grammatically revised version is not promptly resubmitted.

Illustrations submitted on paper should include one master set and three sets of copies. The line drawings in the master set should be clean original laser printer or plotter output or drawn in black Indian ink, with careful lettering, large enough (3-5 mm) to remain legible after reduction to 75 mm width for printing. The photographs should be originals, with somewhat more contrast than is required in the printed version. They should be unmounted unless part of a composite figure. Any scale markers should be inserted within the photograph itself, not drawn below it. Figure number, Author name, Column width (one column or two columns) should be written in the margin.
Figures may be published in color when essential. The publisher (Elsevier) and the author will each bear part of the extra costs involved. Further information on the charge to the author is available from the publisher.
English correction policy: Authors have the primary responsibility for providing acceptable English. Papers with very low quality of English will be rejected without technical review. Assistance in English correction will be provided if NONE of the authors are native English speakers. Papers with authorship including one or more native English speakers but needing English correction will be returned to authors requesting that corrections be made by the co-author(s). In this case, the paper will not be accepted for technical refereeing if language improvement is not made promptly.
Reviewed Papers: The Corresponding Author will be notified by the ICFRM-12 Publication Committee Chairman of the results of the technical and editorial review. Revised manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the editor's and reviewer's recommendations.
After Acceptance: In the course of the production process you will be asked to transfer the copyright of the articles to the publisher. This transfer will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information.
At the proof stage only printer's errors may be corrected. No changes in, or additions to, the edited manuscript will be accepted.
Author benefits: No page charges. Publishing in Journal of Nuclear Materials is free. The corresponding author will receive 25 offprints free of charge. An offprint order form will be supplied by the publisher for ordering any additional paid offprints. A hardbound copy of the ICFRM12 proceedings is included in the registration fee for all fully paid participants.
